I have a couple of travel mugs that are my favourite for coffee in the car, unfortunately during our house move this past weekend, they got washed in the dishwasher (despite the stickers on the bottoms of them that clearly stated “Handwash only”) I hadn’t bothered to take the stickers off them because they were stuck on far too well & weren’t going in the dishwasher anyway! Dishwasher detergents remove most food and grease stains. They might contain a bleaching agent and should be rinsed off very quickly.
Heat a bowl of water and vinegar for 5 minutes in the microwave. The steam will get rid of stains and then you simply wipe it off.
1. Scrape up the liquid.
2. Sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch on stain to let absorb for 10 minutes and then vacuum.
3. Mix one tablespoon clear dishwashing liquid and one tablespoon white vinegar with two cups of warm water.
4. Using a white cloth (microfiber washcloths work really well), sponge the stain with the detergent/vinegar solution and blot until all the liquid is absorbed.
5. Sponge off with cold water and blot dry.
White vinegar helps to get rid of the moldy smell towels can have if you accidentally leave them in the washing machine too long. Just put a cup of white vinegar in after the machine has filled up with water and wash as normal. It gets rid of the smell.
Try using a paste of baking soda and water to get rid of coffee stains on mugs or deep clean anything in the kitchen.
